BIOGRAPHY

Aleksander Kobus, born on October 11, 1991, in Warsaw, is one of the most prominent trumpeters on both the Polish and international music scenes. He won the Ellsworth Smith International Trumpet Solo Competition (USA) organized by the International Trumpet Guild. As the first Polish wind instrument player to achieve success at the prestigious 67th ARD International Music Competition in Munich, he has solidified his strong position among leading Polish musicians. He is a Bach Artist (Conn Selmer Inc.).

Aleksander Kobus began his musical education in his hometown of Warsaw. There, in addition to learning the trumpet—initially at the Oskar Kolberg State Music School under Stanisław Przybyszewski, and later at the Grażyna Bacewicz State Music School Complex —he also sang in the children’s choir at the Teatr Wielki, where he regularly performed solo and choral parts in many operas.

He initially undertook his studies at the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź, and after a year continued at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław in the trumpet class of Prof. Igor Cecocho. In 2019, he obtained his Doctor of Arts degree at this university and became a lecturer at the Wrocław Academy. Subsequently, he studied at the Berlin University of the Arts (Universität der Künste) in the class of Gábor Tarkövi. During his studies, he received numerous prestigious scholarships, including the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe, the Lower Silesia Capital Club, the “Young Poland” scholarship from the National Centre for Culture for the most outstanding Polish artists of the young generation, and the scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

Aleksander Kobus has performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR), Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt, Münchener Kammerorchester, Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, and the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra. With the latter ensemble, he recorded Krzysztof Penderecki’s Trumpet Concerto in 2016 under the baton of the composer himself. Aleksander Kobus has also recorded for such labels as Deutsche Grammophon, DUX, and SPMK Records. In addition to his successes at the ITG and ARD competitions, Aleksander Kobus has numerous awards and distinctions from national and international competitions to his credit, including 1st prize at the 10th Michał Spisak International Music Competition in Dąbrowa Górnicza, 1st prize at the 7th National Trumpet Festival in Kalisz, 2nd place at the 14th Jeju International Brass Competition in South Korea, 1st place at the 14th International Chieri Competition in Italy, and the Grand Prix at the Daniel Patrylak Memorial Trumpet Competition in the United States.
